Spirit Bird was founded to tackle the challenges that transcend borders, politics, and the traditional funding landscape. Our mission is to ensure that Earth is never struck by a celestial object, starting with a groundbreaking mission to the asteroid Apophis in 2029.
Why Apophis? Named after the ancient god of chaos, Apophis ia 370-meter wide, 29-million-ton asteroid that will pass alarmingly close to Earth in 2029—below our weather satellites and visible in the night sky. Although this time it will narrowly miss us, Apophis will return in 2036. Spirit Bird is spearheading a commercial mission through our investment in ExLabs to launch a spacecraft carrying international communities planetary defense payloads to study Apophis and recalibrate its trajectory when it returns in 2036.

Our primary mission is the delivery of the Unity Lander Campaign as part of the Apophis EX mission, which is being executed by ExLabs and NASA JPL. Launching in 2028 ExLabs will delvier the Mothership named HOPE to Apophis and deploy the Unity Lander on April 13, 2029. The Unity Lander will carry the Eternal Marker, a unique artwork crafted by Spriit Bird which will carry the names of all Earth’s Planetary Defenders. Spirit Bird is the creative agency of the Planetary Defense Trust and is responsible for executing the global social media awarness campaign for the Apophis EX mission across 22 languages between 2026 and the arrival of Apophis in 2029.
Beyond Apophis EX we are supporting the development of massive robotic capture and control system capable of altering the orbits of celestial objects, offering humanity a way to protect itself from future threats.
The problem we face is that global governments are divided over who should take responsibility for planetary defense, and space agencies around the world are struggling to secure the necessary funding. Spirit Bird is creating the solution via our parent organization, the non-profit Planetary Defense Trust (PDT). The PDT is being established as a 501 c 3 non profit in the United States as well as a European Non Profit Organization (NGO). This fund acts a a neutral global endowment, aligned with the United Nations, that invests in organizations, technologies, and scientific research to global planetary defense initiatives. The PDT also acts as a full funding agency for deep space missions related to planetary defense.
The Unity Lander
The Unity Lander is a 6U Category-1 Lander that will be deployed from the ExLabs Mothership during the Apophis EX mission. The 1000kg Mothership launches in Q1 2028 and will rendevous with Apophis in February 2029. The Unity lander will be deployed just after Earth Close Approach as Apophis passes below Earth’s weather satellites on Friday, April 13, 2029.
The Eternal Marker
The Eternal Marker is a foil artwork that will be the primary payload of the Unity Lander. The artwork is being developed by leading Space Artist Richelle Ellis, and will be a monument to Humanity’s Hope. For each $100 donation, anyone in the world can submit their signature and it will be etched onto the Eternal Marker, The Marker will land on Apophis just after Earth Close Approach, and will remain on the asteroid for all eternity.
Spirit Bird is producing multiple copies of the Eternal Marker. The copies will be donated to space and art museums around the world and paired with educational Planetary Defense exhibits. The will also be displayed as part of the launch of the IMAX film produced by the ExLabs Apophis EX mission,
